Starvation Mode?

Another day done, and another day done good.  Insanity Plyometric Cardio Circuit this morning.  Oofta, my legs sure hurt during that workout!  Lots of jumping, squatting, and down-to-the-floor-now-get-back-up-and-jump moves.  Another good one.  I fed my children breakfast and made some sweet potato chili in my soaking wet workout clothes before I showered, just to ensure that I wouldn’t have a sweaty shower and make the point of showering obsolete.

No food pictures today, as everything I ate was something I’ve already blogged about this week.  A hard-boiled egg before workout, banana and Greek yogurt after.  Lunch was sweet potato chili and a *small* helping of pasta salad – I tried to get as many veggies in my serving as I could!  (Thanks mom for making it, but I threw the leftovers away that you left for me….love the salad, but can't have it!  It's actually not too terrible, just the pasta part because it wasn't whole wheat or anything....and the dressing....).  Dinner was my salad obsession (click here if you want to see it!).

I’m thinking I need to do a little research on how your body goes into starvation mode.  You see, I forgot to eat my snack this afternoon as I was preoccupied with getting the kids to the zoo.  Then at dinner, I had planned to have an apple with peanut butter along with my salad, but didn't.  Again, preoccupied with getting the kids to a play at the park.  (Those of you who know me well are saying “WHAT?  Peanut butter?  She HATES peanut butter!”  Well you are right, I do strongly dislike peanut butter, but I force myself to eat it every once in awhile because I know it’s ok for me to eat.)  Since I didn’t have either of those things today, it put me way under my calorie goal.  I’ve been trying to stick to around 1200 or so, which I know is the bare minimum to consume in order to stay healthy and not go into starvation mode.  But not having my snack or my entire dinner put me WAY under that.  Needless to say I wasn’t famished or super starving because of it.  I could have just ate those foods later instead, but I didn’t want to eat too late at night either…?  I wasn’t sure what to do.  I’ll google it and let you know what I find out.  Unless you have some tips or some expert advice, please feel free to enlighten me!  Well to sum it up, I ended up having part of my snack (string cheese) and an apple before bed.  I’m thinking that was on ok choice to make.

Thanks again for joining me today - I promised myself I would go to bed a bit earlier tonight, but I've recently become a bit obsessed with watching LOST on the Netflix....never watched the show while it was on TV and I can't seem to get enough of it...but, I should really just go to bed!  Goodnight, and see you tomorrow!

  1. Good choice to still eat the apple and string cheese before bed. First its good to eat a little protien before bed because it keeps your metabolism boosted while you sleep. This also will help you get a more restful night sleep!

    Keep it up!
