Day 1 A Success!

Day one done, and it feels great.  I did exactly what I intended today.  I worked out this morning – a 2 mile run, which took me 25 minutes.  Go ahead, do the math.  I’m slow, I know.  But that doesn’t bother me.  Then I went to the gym and did an upper body workout, lifting weights and such.  Felt good!  A workout always makes me feel good and have a more productive day.

Now, the real test of the success of my day was going to be who won the battle with food – me, or the chocolate fudge pop tarts and Twizzlers?  I can proudly say that I kicked butt!  And it wasn’t even hard to do!  I had no craving for sweets, no desire to munch and nibble.  I never once went to the pantry, opened it up, and just stared inside, waiting for something to jump out and me and say “oooh oooh, pick me, pick me!”  I had no desire to eat anything that would put a damper on my decision to be successful.  So I consider that a good day!

I’ve debated back and forth all day long on whether or not to actually post what I ate.  Is that boring to read, or do people want to know?  I certainly don’t want to bore anyone and deter them from reading.  But on the other hand, if I truly want to be held accountable, I should be divulging those details, right?  I still don’t know.  What do you think?

For today, I’ll do a quick synapses of my eating habits for the day.  We’ll see how I feel tomorrow.

Before my workout – a hard-boiled egg and some water.  Post-workout breakfast – a green smoothie made with Greek yogurt, frozen banana, almond milk, and spinach.  I even got the hubby to try it!

My salad for lunch - I eat this a lot!
Lunch – best salad ever!  Arugula and spinach topped with chicken breast, sliced almonds, shredded parmesan cheese, cherry tomatoes, and creamy Caesar vinaigrette dressing.  Love it.  It’s a bit doctored up from a salad that my friend Cassie made, so credit goes to you, dear Cass, for this one!

Snack – apple and string cheese

My yummy dinner!
Dinner – was very delicious!  Grilled shrimp marinated in my own concoction of extra virgin olive oil, lemon juice, worsteshire sauce, garlic, and other random spices.  Sautéed red pepper and onion, and cottage cheese.  Delish.

Snack – whole wheat toast with peanut butter and a glass of skim milk.

I hope all that didn’t bore you too much.  If it did, I’m sorry.  If I were reading a blog, would I want to read what the person ate?  Sometimes yes, sometimes no.  So maybe that’s how I’ll handle this.  If I feel like posting it, I will.  If not, I won’t!

A blog will definitely be SUPER boring without pictures.  So here are some from today, and from my life lately.

  2. Yay! Again, baby step 1 was a good step. I like to see the meals! Your salads do make me smile... Lately I've been in love with spinach! 2 miles in 25 minutes! good for you! We should keep an eye out for another 5k, let me know if you see one there. I know there probably isn't one in Chamberlain!

  3. Cass, I am a tiny bit obsessed with that salad you made for us, which is why it makes Mary smile. I started eating it for lunch at work a LOT. Spargur, I am up for a race with you anyday! I checked www.siouxfallsarearunningclub.org and there are tons listed. Let's pick one!

  4. Congratulations, Jamie! I would like to do the Jazz Fest 5k, and Alexis is out of town that weekend. It is usually quite hot, but I like the Jazz Fest t-shirt. You just run around Yankton Trail Park - and there is very little shade.
